Since the 1990’s media has always wanted women to look their best in ads, commercials, and magazines. Photoshop started in the 1990’s and is still being used today on women’s bodies. Social media like Facebook and Instagram is very known for girls of all ages photoshopping their body. This simple tool was used for smaller purposes, not for people to create their own image. People ask is photoshopping destroying women’s body image? It not only changes the body to look better, but it changes the minds of women and girls all over the world. If we eliminated photoshop would or could women be happier with who they are? People everywhere are for and against companies and media using photoshops on women’s body image.

Actors and models have been altered at some point in their career to change their looks. Many did not know of the photoshops and some did not care for the photoshopping. However, both wanted the change to their image so they would be happy with what they saw. Some celebrities will ask for their own personal photographer because the photographer will either photoshop afterwards or take pictures to keep from exposing their flaws. They understand the danger of the photoshop can have on the people that see it.

The danger that comes with photoshopping has been recognized by the American Medical Association(AMA). Photoshop photos body images that girls can only dream of. These photos lead to emotional problems and eating disorders. Young girls find that eating disorders and harming their bodies is the only way to achieve the body and looks they see in those photoshopped photos. Women who pose for magazine covers, ads, and photos can also be affected and start to have eating disorders to obtain the same look. No one is saying the people editing the photos are unaware of the eating disorders, but they should realize the effect a few inches of a smaller waist and stomach can do to women.

There are critics out there from professionals to actors and models who do not blame photoshops for the cause of eating disorders. Critics find little to none science proving that photoshops lead women to eating disorders. Physicians have been analyzing relations between photos being altered and advertised and the increase in eating disorders. There have still been no scientific connections proven by that connection. If you think about it look at how other ads could affect us like photoshopping. Lysol and cleaning commercials could make us be OCD. Bluetooth’s don’t make us think people are mentally crazy talking to themselves.

Photoshops have been slowing down because of the advanced technology photographers have now. There are numerous new cameras, new and better digital printers and new software that brings more focus to what the photo really captures. Photoshop was never created to make distorted bodies that you can only capture from a camera and computer software. The photographers out there that does not photoshop their works find ways to capture the models best sides and hide their flaws.

Photoshop has been affecting media and images for 26 years. Women’s photos over those 26 years have been changed and altered in numerous ways. Media outlets and social media have pressured women to change their bodies when they post photos for people to see. There are many supporters and people against photoshops. Supporters see photoshop doesn't force girls to have eating disorders to resemble the pictures we see. Critics say the photoshops create impossible body images that girls feel pressured into being. Photographers are making the effort to use less whether it is proven that altering papers affect girls bodies and minds. Alterations or not, girls be happy with your body. If you want to change it, workout and be healthy.
