Now, the media and the Internet has been criticized for bullying woman into changing their body image. However, not every media source or company is trying to down women and their bodies. There are countless companies and media sources today that want to empower women and be happy in the skin they are in. Dove has the biggest campaign for women. “Real Beauty” advertises women of all sizes happy and smiling in bra and panties. They started a spark and today there are eight other campaigns that are following in Dove’s footsteps. Hopefully there will be more companies to help women become more happy in their bodies.
#Fatkini started in 2012 and has spread through social media. The hashtag is for plus size women to tag on their photos of them in bikinis. Since the hashtag was created, it has had more tags. It used to be rare to see a fat woman post a picture post a picture like that until this hashtag. The woman who started this hashtag now has created her own fatkini line for other woman to wear.
#ImNoAngel is a hashtag hoping to change the way we use the word “sexy.” This hashtag wants to get people to consider women of all sizes sexy. When women use this hashtag, they also comment something with self confidence. This whole hashtag started from a plus size Tumblr page. The campaign isn't a success yet, but the hashtag is growing and with more exposure it will grow.
#LoseHateNotWeight is another hashtag campaign that is helping women of all sizes. A fat woman, who has spoke about the philosophy “I am never good enough,” has started this campaign by posting pictures of herself. She wants women to regain the love and care they have in themselves. This hashtag has been buzzing and fat women have been posting pictures confident in their body.
#Fatshion is a body movement and has very special power on social media. Proud fat women go to social media and post selfies and outfits they love to wear. This campaign has grown naturally and has started conversations and debates between body images and fashion sources. The debate has landed the statement that a woman can be fat and love fashion too. It seems that this campaign has started to get fashion companies make clothing for women over the size twelve.
Love Your Body is a campaign and a female movement. It has taken over the Internet and social media because its image and purpose is to embrace your figure. The National Organization for Women has made October 14th to be “Love Your Body Day.” The day is to fight against beauty standards that society has over women. It now has ads, videos, and many other ways to expose the campaign.
Dove’s Real Beauty campaign is the most known and successful body image campaign today. Dove’s campaign stands at the crossing roads of body image and fashion. The company has been researching women's body image for over 10 years. And let's not forget about their gains in social media and melt your heart commercials. Dove wants to strengthen women's inner self esteem and to make them embrace their inner beauty.
As you can see, there is positive media out there that helps empower women against the negatives. Body images and fashion break down and build up the inner beauty of women. There are hashtags and campaigns that want only the best for women and to make her a stronger, more confident, and more beautiful woman.
